BEYOND - Final Project of VFX Master's Degree 2025

Inspired by Rebel Moon & Fallout

History I created behind the project. Year 3075. Merto is a world of dust and stone, where spiky rocks grow across the surface letting the wind howl through them. Life here is hard, but the planet thrives on mines full of rare and precious materials, which fuel a booming galactic trade. The only places that are safe are the mines and the big cities surrounded by a wall. Transport between safe zones is done by an armoured train that is guarded along its route all the day.  There was a time when Merto and the distant world of Rokzú were allies. Peace had forged their future and trade had brought prosperity to both. But peace never lasts forever. The king of Rokzú, driven by greed, wanted more power, more control, more than had been agreed with Merto's leaders. And so the war began. Now, both planets are on the brink of destruction. Soldiers wait with weapons in hand, knowing that fighting is inevitable. The final battle is not a distant threat. It is coming. And it is coming soon.

The project. The project was created with the goal of applying the knowledge gained during the Master’s program, while also researching additional resources where needed, such as COPs. For certain elements, I used models from libraries, purchasing the ship, drone, character, and some assets for the mine entrance, which I retextured to fit my artistic vision. The terrain, spiky rock formations, entrance gate, and train track were procedurally generated. The gate was textured using the COP (Copernicus) tool. Masks were applied to distribute rocks, plants, and bones across the surface, considering the warm climate. I developed simulations for pyro, smoke, and RBD effects, to do missile trails, explosions, shockwaves, and more. Lighting was designed with a custom HDRi to create realistic illumination for an eclipse. The project includes many small details, and the composition was refined with a starry sky and additional passes to enhance the final image.

Software used: Houdini, Substance 3D Piainter, Photoshop & Nuke.

*I'm making improvements to enhance the lighting and refine some details.

Demo Reel

Glass Fragmentation

Inspired by League of Legends World Championships 2021 Cinematic.

Customized a library character by modifying its texture. Created an RBD glass fracture and environment. Enhanced reflections with strategic blue-purple lighting.

Software used: Houdini & Nuke.

Electromagnetic pulse

Inspired by The Matrix.

Modified a ship model to match the 'Nebuchadnezzar' aesthetic from The Matrix. Designed a wired tunnel with dynamic electromagnetic pulse interactions. Added lens flares to the lights for a more authentic and immersive touch.

Software used: Houdini, Maya 3D, Substance 3D Painter & Nuke.

Silent Incrusion

Inspired by Dune Part I.

Modeled and textured the environment, with custom desert soldier's texture. Combined three crowd animations, adjusting body parts and directions. Aligned feet with terrain irregularities and added a smoke simulation for enhance the secene impact.

Software used: Houdini, Substance 3D Painter & Nuke.

Silver Fur in Moonlight

Reference: National Geographic.

Applied realistic grooming to a library deer animation and generated contrast lighting, composed with a moonlit background to create a magical touch.

Software used: Houdini & Nuke.

I have also worked doing Motion Graphics, Graphic Design, and Photography. Take a look!
